Features
- 30% weight reduction compared
to traditional 1/2" plywood cases. Freight and transportation costs
drastically reduced because of weight reduction.
- Triple the strength of
plywood constructed cases.
- Superior srength reduces
damage claims and related costs.
- No laminate! Color runs
throughout panel.
- Aluminum alloy recessed
dishes house the latch and handle mechanisms, replacing typical heavy
steel stampings.
This
month’s rental spotlight deals with several pieces of equipment that
make life a lot easier for concert engineers, however is rarely recognized
for how valuable a role it plays. The equipment rack is essential gear
for any rental company. They range from the first carpeted rack that
you put together with stuff from the local hardware store, to the new
composite style cases that we are going to discuss today. From as far
back as I can remember we have been using LM Engineering to build our
cases. The new racks that we are using are made from a composite material.
They are much lighter that the standard plywood racks, yet three times
the strength of that same plywood case.
The
nice thing is that there is no laminate color on top of the plywood,
the color runs all the way through the paneling. On a regular case that
gets knocked or something runs into it, you run the risk of having structural
damage, the laminate color gets scraped off, and the equipment inside
may get damaged. With the new composite cases there is no laminate to
get scrapped off, the scratches can be sanded smooth, and the plastic
nature of the case will ‘bounce away’ easier than the plywood cases.
While driving to a show, a tie down strap worked it’s way loose in the
back of our truck. Two cases got hit pretty hard by a ‘run away speaker’
at 50Mph. The ATA case got a large 3 inch square dent, and the composite
got a very small scrape. We sanded it smooth, and it was good as new.
